    Lactobacillus reuteri

    Also known as: L. reuteri

Heavily trialled for thrush, BV, and cystitis. Colonises vaginal tract after oral consumption and produces hydrogen peroxide and bacteriocins to protect against pathogens.

    What it is

Lactobacillus reuteri is a probiotic strain naturally present in the human gut, studied for its ability to produce protective compounds and colonise the vaginal tract after oral intake.

    Why we use it

We include it in Women's Probiotic Gummies for its specific research history around thrush, BV and urinary comfort, complementing our other targeted strains.

    What the research generally suggests

Clinical research on L. reuteri, often in combination with L. rhamnosus, generally suggests a supportive role in restoring vaginal microbiome balance after disruption (such as after antibiotics), though it works best as part of consistent, ongoing use rather than a one-off fix.

    Typical amounts

Studies on this strain commonly use doses in the billions of CFU per day.

In Flexies products: 15mg per serving.

    Benefits

    • Thrush support
    • UTI support
    • Anti-inflammatory
    • Vaginal colonisation

    Good to know

    • Considered safe for most healthy adults; check with your GP if immunocompromised.
    • Recurrent or severe thrush, BV or UTI symptoms warrant a proper medical diagnosis rather than self-treatment with probiotics alone.

As always, if you're unsure whether this ingredient is right for you, chat to your GP or pharmacist before adding it to your routine.
