    Astaxanthin

    Also known as: Astaxanthin

A carotenoid 6000x stronger than vitamin C as an antioxidant. Protects skin from stress and damage while enhancing that natural golden glow.

    What it is

Astaxanthin is a reddish-pink carotenoid pigment, most commonly derived from microalgae, that's also what gives salmon and flamingos their colour. It's one of the more potent naturally occurring antioxidants studied to date.

    Why we use it

In Tanning Gummies, astaxanthin works alongside beta carotene to support the skin's resilience against everyday environmental and UV-related stress while contributing to a warmer skin tone.

    What the research generally suggests

Research generally suggests astaxanthin has strong antioxidant activity in lab and some human studies, with early evidence pointing to skin-related benefits — though it's not a substitute for sunscreen or sun-safe behaviour.

    Typical amounts

Human studies commonly use daily doses in the range of 4-12mg, though supplement products vary.

In Flexies products: 30mg per serving.

    Benefits

    • Skin protection
    • Antioxidant power
    • UV protection
    • Natural glow

    Good to know

    • Astaxanthin does not provide sun protection — sunscreen and shade are still essential.
    • If you're on blood-thinning medication, check with your GP as astaxanthin may have mild effects on platelet function at higher doses.

As always, if you're unsure whether this ingredient is right for you, chat to your GP or pharmacist before adding it to your routine.
